My name is Chris Santos and I live in
Boise Idaho. Boise is the capitol of Idaho and has a population of
190,000. I have been a member of the American Postal Workers Union
since December of 1978. I started my employment with the United States
Postal Service in December of 1978. The duty assignments that I have held
in Boise are Multi Position Letter Sorting Machine Operator & Data Collection
Tech. for Quality Improvement (the old Quality Control). In July of 2003,
I retired from the Postal Service.
My union involvement
started in 1980 when I became the Treasurer for the Boise Local. I then became the Chief
Steward until 1994. I was the Director of Training for the Idaho State APWU for two
years. I have been the President of the Idaho State APWU for last fourteen years.
I have been an advocate for the American Postal Workers Union since 1989. An
advocate is someone that presents grievances in arbitrations. I have done
arbitrations in Idaho (Pocatello, Idaho Falls, Boise), Eugene Oregon, Laramie Wyoming, Las
Vegas Nevada, Colville Washington and Montana.
I have been married for thirteen years to my wife Diane. My wife is a Training Tech in
the PEDC in Boise Idaho. My stepson, Michael, is working for company that
cleans kitchen hoods in restaurants. . My daughter Michelle is 11 and
entering the six grade. My son Matthew is
nine and is entering third grade.
